My a new tattoo

Hello dears,

Yesterday I spend about 3 hours at the tattoo studio. I got a new tattoo on my right arm. I looooove it! I have always liked the old school tattoos. Especially old school swallow tattoos. Most of my tattoos are related to Japan somehow. So is my new tattoo.

Pretty, isn't?
Now I love to take a new tattoo. I have a couple ideas. I like to have old school swallow tattoo on my left arm too but with the text, envelope or pentals of cherry blossoms. If I decide to take it with the text I want the text to be "mia san mia" coz I'm fan of FC Bayern München. If I decide not to take it with the text I like to take the text anyway. I have so many ideas and so little money :S

Till next time! Ciao!

Good music makes you happier

Hello dears,

Yesterday I went to Tavastia club with my friend to see a concert a Finnish metal band called as Stam1na. Stam1na is one of my favorite bands so it was pleasure to see them on stage again.

Our evening started in a pub called as Rotterdam. We had drinks there and then we headed to the Tavastia. Tavastia was sold out so it was full of people. One a huge minus of these club gigs  is the fact there's always someone taller standing front of you so you aren't able to see much. Anyhow, I did enjoyed a lot the gig. It was suprising to see that people sang a lot and some even danced. Dancing on a metal gig? Well, I suppose all you need is to catch the rhythm.

Stam1na

Stam1na

Antti "Hyrde" Hyyrynen

I had lots of fun. I sang, danced, jumped and simple were happy to be there listening some absolutely fabulous metal music. I don't go much gigs anymore but when I do, I go to see the bands which I really like. Speaking of it, Stam1na will have gig in Helsinki next year. They'll play with another Finnish band, Eläkeläiset. Since I like both bands I love to go that concert too. So I have to buy a tickets to that gig soonish.

Till next time! :)

Happy Independence Day Finland

Hello dears,

Today Finland is celebrating 99th Independence Day. To celebrate it I got two candles, blue and white ( the colors of Finnish flag) and also bunch of flowers, also colors of Finnish flag.
As food I made sauteed reindeer, in Finnish "poronkäristys". It's traditional Finnish food from Lapland. I have never made it at home and I was suprised to notice that it's actually quite easy to make :) I definitely gonna make it again.

Sauteed reindeer.

There's couple things that Finns are obsessed to do on Independence Day.

  • to watch Tuntematon sotilas, "The Unknown Soldier", a movie based on a novel By Väinö Linna.  The story is about the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union as told from the viewpoint of ordinary Finnish soldiers. Here's a clip of it, in Finnish:

  • and watch Linnan juhlat on the evening, also known as Itsenäisyyspäivän vastaanotto. In English, Presidential Independence Day reception. It's held in Presidential Palace and it is broadcast on national television and has been a perennial favourite of the viewing public.

Personally I have never watched "The Unknown Soldier", not a fan of war movies. But this year, I gonna watch it. Since every year I hear comments like "you aren't a true Finn if you haven't seen the movie." A newsflash, I haven't read the book either.
What comes to the Presidential Independence Day reception, never understood what is so great about watching people getting a good meal while you're eating potato chips front of your TV. But I guess I might watch the reception this year, so I know what people are talking about at work tomorrow.

Happy Independence Day Finland!

    Till next time!

Ugly Christmas sweater party

Hello dears,

Yesterday I hosted Ugly Christmas sweater party. I like the idea of Ugly Christmas sweater party. It's about being silly and having fun. We had lots of fun and it was great that my friends had saw a little trouble with their sweaters. <3

Merry people wearing ugly xmas sweaters.

As you can see the idea was to make really tacky Christmas sweaters. My personal favorite was the white sweater. I was speechless when I saw her sweater. Simply brilliant! It's great that somebody else has understood the idea of ugly Christmas sweater as I have; more is more.

My ugly Christmas sweater; have a holly jolly xmas!

What do you think about my sweater? Ugly, isn't?

Melted snowman gingerbreads

Hello dears,

Today I felt like baking something so I wanted to try to make something new and since the Christmas is coming I made melted snowman gingerbreads. I thought it's gonna be really messy and lot of work but it actually was quite easy and fast to make. The best part was that I didn't had much cleaning to afterwards.

So, first I made the gingerbreads. When gingerbreads were cooled I decorated them with using Dr. Oetker's Choco Cover White Chocolate Taste( there's a really handy product, easy to use. I recommed it to everybody who likes to bake a lot :) ), marshmallows and sprinkles.
It took about 30 mins to decorate the gingerbreads. And here's the result:

Tomorrow I gonna bake a Kinder cake. More about it on my next blog.
Till next time! Ciao! :)

An easy diy birthday card idea

Hello dears,

Wow! It's already November. Time really flies fast. I'm into crafts again. Good friend of mine will have a birthday next week so I made a birthday card for her.
While I wrapped Christmas presents yesterday I got an idea what kind of birthday card I will do for her. Now I gonna share with you how to make fast a birthday card. It's very easy, all you need is a blank card, any color will do, it's up to you. Wrapping paper, gift bow and glue. So let's start it; First you need to cut a piece of wrapping paper the shape of the card. Then you glue the wrapping paper on the card. I decided to cut rounded corners, but it's optional.  Then just glue the gift bow and voilà you're ready.

Voilà, the card is ready!

As you can see making selfmade birthday card can very easy and fast. Now all I need to do is to send the card.

Till next time! Ciao!

A day at the fairs

Hello dears,

The plan was to go book fair, liquorice and salmiakki festival and Japan day. First was the book fair. Simply because it's my every year tradition to go book fair. There was lots of interesting interviews today so I spend my midday listening lost of interesting interviews. One of them was the interview of makers of Finnish TV programme Madventures. They spoke about their a new book "Mad music", which by the way is on my birthday/Christmas present list now. Wink wink ;) Anyhow, the book is about the music around the world. And it doesn't mean world music or etno music. It's about the music what people listen, well for example in Korea. How many of you has ever heard of K-pop? Personally I think from South Korea comes some of the greatest pop bands. The reason why I am interested to have the book is coz I do like to listen different types of music. Those who knows me well, knows that I am a huge fan Japanese pop/rock music. Lately I have listened a lot German pop/rock music too. It would be great to listen for example African pop. Or even better African metal music. I wonder do they have metal bands in Africa...

Tunna and Riku, makers of Madventures

And speaking of K-pop. Here's a song by one of my favorite K-pop bands: TVXQ. You're welcome :)

Next interview that I went to listen was about Shakespeare. In Kansallisteatteri is coming not one but two playes of Shakespeare soon. Macbeth and Richard III. Guess how excited I am at the moment? Very, very...VERYYYY excited. I do love playes of Shakespeare. Richard III is one of my favorite playes. I also love Halmet. So I definitely will go to see both playes. I hope they will bring Hamlet also on the stage.

Then was time to go to next event. And it was Japan day. It wasn't anything special. Same old stuffs as usually, meaning 3 years ago. But what I really liked it was the ikebana workshop.

My first ikebana arrangement.
It was absolutely fantastic finally to do ikebana arrangement. I got so excited that I have to buy all the stuffs for it so I can start to make ikebana arrangements at home too. It's form of art. Unfortenally it doesn't last long but some of the most beautiful things doesn't last long.

I didn't felt like going to the liquorice and salmiakki festival, so after my visit to Japan day I took bus back home. Now I just wanna relax. Read a book that I bought from book fair and drink Glühwein.

Till next time! Ciao!

A few days in aboad

Hello dears,

Last few days I have been in abroad. I travelled in Germany, Munich where I spend most of my time. I did a day trip to Austria, Salzburg. I must say that I did liked Salzburg, it was small city, or should I say a town. It's quite weird to think it's the 4th biggest city in Austria.  Anyhow, on Sunday I arrived in Munich. The flight was a bit late so I really felt like doing anything else on Sunday than eat something and then go back to the hotel.  On Monday I did lots of walking. I wanted to go one of my favorite areas in Munich. That's Englischer garten. Such a lovely park. I recommed everyone to visit there if you're going in Munich. It was glad to see the proper autumn colors in Munich. In Finland the autumn color season wasn't as beautiful as in Munich.

Kleinhesseloher See in Englischer garten
I also visited 2 cemeteries on Monday. My travel guide said that the cemeteries in Munich are, a direct quotation, a romantic getaways. I thought, hmm, a romantic getaway, this I must see. Let's put it this way, my travel guide is exaggerating. Sure, the cemeteries were nice, very park like. The tombstones were beautiful. But everything was far from romantic.

On Tuesday I did a day trip in Salzburg. I was quite worried coz the weather forecast promised rain for whole day. Luckily, it rained only in Munich. In the end I had a good weather were ever I were during my trip. Anyhow, I had a little problems to find the ZOB bus station in Munich. In the end I found it, after I had asked help. When I arrived in Salzburg I walked to the Mirabellgarten. It was one the places that I wanted to see in Salzburg. I must say "The Sound of the Music" had something to with it, actually quite a lot. When I walked at the garden I hummed " Do Re Mi" on my mind. Silly I  know.

Mirabellgarten
From Mirabellgarten I walked to the old town of Salzburg. There were lot to see. Before exploring the old town I visited in Hohensalzburg fortress. From the forstess was absolutely beautiful view of the city.

Salzburg from Hohensalzburg fortress
When I got back to the city  I walked around the old town, Which was full of beautiful buildings.
It was quite easy to move around the old town. Everytime I found myself front of statue of Mozart. So, that kinda tells how small the old town really is.

The statue of Mozart
After lots of walking I walked back to the bus station and took the bus back to Munich. The way back Munich took hours. There were bad traffic jams middle of the nowhere. We literally moved 2km/h. Since I didn't had hurry anywhere it was totally okay to me even the bus arrived late in Munich. I went straight to bed when I got back at the hotel. Honestly, I were quite tired.

On Wednesday I did more walking in Munich. I started my day with a long walk beside the river Isar. Again, I really enjoyed to admire the autumn colors.  When I walked around the city I kept thinking why we can't have such a lovely park like areas in Helsinki. I would definitely spend more time at the parks. The parks are one reason why I like Munich so much. It's just very lovely city.

A view of the river Isar
After my morning walk I went to the centre of Munich to do some shopping. I bought a new shirt and skirt to myself. I also bought lots of FC Bayern München fan stuff to myself. Like Christmas calendar, which wasn't in a good shape when I got back at home, but hey, at least it's still in one piece and chocolated were inside the calendar.

On Thurday morning I had flight back at home. Even I do like a lot Munich it was nice to get back at home. I missed my own bed.

That's all this time. Till next time! Ciao!

A night at the opera

Hello dears,

So the opera. It was interesting experience, but honestly probably not my thing. I'm more into musicals.

A while ago friend of mine, also my co-worker asked if I like to go to the opera with her and some other co-workers. Of course I did. I think it's always good thing try a new things. You never know what you gonna like if you don't try and explore things. So I found myself opera house yesterday.

The opera night started with early dinner in Manala restaurant in Helsinki. We ate well, and some of us also drank a bit too well ( I think I had one glass too much white wine :P )

From Manala we walked to the opera house. There we had a glass of champagne before the first act.

A night at the opera
I did liked the opera, the dressed were absolutely brilliant. I always like to watch what actors are wearing on the stage. The Marriage of the Figaro was even partly funny. It has it moments, but thanks too much white wine and hot hall I started to feel a bit sleepy middle of the opera.

But now, I must stop. I gotta catch the flight to Munich!

Till next time! Ciao!

What to wear to the opera

Hello dears,

On Saturday I am going to see "The Marriage of the Figaro " with my friends.  I'm seeing an opera for the first time so I have had problems to find something proper to wear at the opera house.
I did a little googling and it looks like it's okay to wear pretty much anything when you go to ththeatre, ballet or opera. I'm kinda speechless. I thought the idea is to wear a cocktail dress or a suit. I mean something better than what you would normally wear. It's totally okay to wear jeans when you go to see a movie, but NOT in an opera house!! No way.

Basicly I found myself in a situation where I didn't had any little black dresses or cocktail dresses. Mostly coz I just sold my old ones coz they were a bit too revealing. I have noticed that when you get old you don't wanna wear anymore too short dresses. It's simply tacky.

So I bought a blank cocktail dress and I gonna wear it with red shoes. I was thinking something simple but classy. Black dress, red shoes and a necklace. That should be enough. Or what do you think? What would you wear?

I will write about how was the opera later this week, then you will also see my final outfit for the opera.

Till next time!  Ciao!

The Carneval of Lights

Hello dears,

Yesterday I went to the carneval of lights in Linnanmäki with a friend. Linnanmäki is amusement park in Helsinki. Linnanmäki was full of lights and it looked magical in the dark. I really liked the exhibition at the old water reservoir, Alppilan vesitorni. Here's a few photos from the carneval.

Welcome to the carneval of lights

Hattivatteja! Hattifattener!

This was one of the works at the exhibition at the old water reservoir.

And here is another one. It's my personal favorite.

Don't worry, BE happy!

It was a chilly evening, so we had chili hot chocolate to drink while we walked around the carneval area. It was really good, the chili helped to stay warm.
Around 8 o'clock Linnanmäki was full of people, then we decided to left. Either of us didn't enjoyed the idea of walking in crowed amusement park. Not much fun. So we left + plus I started to be quite tired after working 8 hours at work.

Till next time! Ciao!

I'm a bronde

Hello dears,

I have wanted to do something to my hair quite a while. I ended up with bronde color. Bronde is something between brown and blonde.  My natural hair color is dark brown and it makes me look like a zombie. I often hear comments like "Oh" Your skin is very pale." That's why I like to have lighter color on my hair, so I was excited when I saw L'Oreals Glam Lights color at the market. I had to buy a box of it and try it.

Here's before and after photo:

Yup. Bronde looks much better than brown hair.

I didn't wanted the color to be too light. The magic of bronde color is that you can't be sure what color my hair really is, if the lighting is right the hair looks lighter, almost blonde.

I would recommend bronde color to anyone who wants to have lighter hair color but doesn't want to dye blonde hair.

Till next time!

Cauliflower pizza crust

Hello dears,

Last week I made cauliflower pizza crust, and damn it was really good. I think now on I will always make pizza crust of cauliflower. It's easy to make and tastes really good. Plus personally I like it coz there's no flours.
So here it is: cauliflower pizza crust.

Ingredients

1 big cauliflower
1 egg
A bag of emmentaler cheese ( or any cheese that you like to use)

1. Preheat the oven to 200C
2. Grate the cauliflower using a box grater, saute the cauliflowers until golden.
3. Mix the egg, fried cauliflowers and the bag of cheese. Once combined, pat into the baking tray. Bake for 10 or 15 minutes, or until golden.
4. Add the toppings and bake another 10 minutes.

As I said it's easy to make. I made mozzarella and tomato pizza. Next time I gonna use other toppings. Maybe ham or tuna. There's so many options...

Eichhornia crassipes

Hello dears,

I bought something pretty to my living room this week; Eichhornia crassipes, also known as water hyacinth. I think it looks nice on my living room. It's just I don't know how to take care of it. So if any of you has any tips how to take the plant alive I would be more than happy to know them :) I don't know much about the plant. I know it's considered as invasive species. The plant free-floating perennial aquati plant native to tropical and sub-tropical South America.
I keep my fingers crossed that the plant won't die soon. That's why it would like to know tips how to take care of the plant. Like how often I should change the water?  Meanwhile I gonna enjoy the beauty of my new flower :)

A week in Crete

Hello dears,

I got back home from Crete today. I had absolutely fantastic week in there with my friend. We arrived in Chania on 20th August, after we had booked on our hotel we went straight to the pool area to enjoy of the sunny day. On the evening we had a dinner in the seaside. It was nice to watch the sunset while enjoying of yummy food. I absolutely love Greek food. I even bought some local spices at home so I can cook Greek food at home too. Greek meatballs are heavenly good! Anyhow, after our dinner we went to Bamboo bar to have drinks and then we went to back to the hotel.
On Sunday we spend almost whole day at the beach. My back really didn't liked it. Even I always use sun protection factor 50 I got sunburn. My back looked really bad on Sunday evening. Good thing was that we went to Chania on evening to have a dinner so I bought aloe vera olive gel for sunburns. Thanks to it my back isn't red anymore, and I can actually sleep on my back again. Hurrey!
So on Sunday evening we had dinner in Chania. We ate in a restaurant called as Tamam. On the restaurant was a cat sleeping on the chair and it was really cute.

The cat of Tamam restaurant

After our dinner we walked around the Venetian harbour and we saw another beautiful sunset.

Sunset in Chania

On Monday we made a day trip to Elafonisi beach. Which is awesome place and also very very beautiful. I love it. The clear water and white sand. If you ever go in Crete you should visit in Elafonisi, you will love it!  I had chance to go snorkeling in Elafonisi. It's good place to go snorkeling. I saw lots of different kind of fishes.

Enjoying the day in Elafonisi

Elafonisi beach

Another photo of Elafonisi beach

On Tuesday we spend the day in Chania. We did some shopping, walked around the city and enjoyed the sunny day. One thing what I really like about Chania are the narrow streets. Venetian harbor looks very romantic.

A details of Chania

In Chania

On Wednesday we had another beach day. We went another beach coz we wanted to go snorkeling again. Again we saw lots of fishes. I even saw big fish hunting the little fishes.

Can you see group of a little fishes?

On Wednesday evening we went to train trip to the mountains. We visited in winery. We had a chance to do wine tasting in there. Which was a lot of fun. We also visited in monastery. From the monastery was really nice views, and I saw another great sunset.

Wine tasting. Personally I'm not a fan of rose wines.

A view from monastery

Another view from monastery

The sunset

On Thursday we spend half of the day at the pool. I read a book and enjoyed a good weather. Only negative thing about the day at the pool was a Swedish couple who had lots of fun doing some body shaming. They seemed to have fun to make fun of the way I looked on bikinis. I really wanted to say something to them about their behavior. But I didn't, mostly coz I was really annoyed. When I am annoyed I might say nasty things so I thought it's better not to do anything.

On Friday we visited in archaeological museum of Chania. I liked that museum a lot. But again, I'm interested of archaeology so it was prefect way to start to day. I also learnt something new. I didn't knew much about Minoans before visiting the museum.  After visiting the museum we did some more shopping. I'm glad that I bought some really nice leather products from Crete. Like a new bag and sandals. We had lunch in a nice restaurant in Chania. It was the first restaurant where they had Finnish menu. Which was kinda suprising.

A lunch in Chania

Friday evening we went to a huge market to buy some souvenirs. I also found a birthday present to my stepsister. Woohoo! When we got back to the hotel we drank a bottle of sangria and sat on the terrance. After bottle of sangria we had dinner at the hotel. When we got back in our room we packed and drank white wine. We finished packing around 1am.  I was so tired so I went to bed. Unfortenally I wasn't able to sleep well coz I kept waking up, just to check how much time is it.

When I got back home I put all my stuffs on hot sauna. Just to make sure that if there was any bugs on my suitcase that them are dead before I unpack. I should take the suitcase off the sauna soon. Then  I will go to in sauna to relax. My plan for the evening is to make pizza and watch tv. I just wanna stay at home and relax now.

Till next time!

Let's humppa!

Hello dears,

Yesterday I had a pleasure to spend an evening in Somero, a dance hall called as Esakallio. There performed Underground Rock Orchestra and Eläkeläiset

Since the concert was in Somero, my friend bought us combined ticket with the bus and the actual ticket to the concert. So our journey to Somero started from Helsinki around 7pm and we were in Somero about 30 mins before concert of Underground Rock Orchestra. We had enough time to go to the toilet and have a drinks. O boy, and we were lucky with our drinks. I must say that I am quite picky what comes to drinks, especially beers. I pretty much drink only Weißbier so luckily they had 2 bottles Weißbier left in the bar. Woohoo! After the drinks we went to see the concert a bit closer. I really liked the concert of Underground Rock Orchestra. A big plus was that I finally saw M.A Numminen on stage.

Underground Rock Orchestra
After the concert we had a little time before the concert of Eläkeläiset so we went to back to the bar coz my friend wanted to have another drink. I just wanted to sit coz my legs were aching. Here comes a free tip for everyone- highheels aren't the best shoes to wear in a concert.

We saw something really scary in Esakallio, wax dolls. Creepy wax dolls. Or what do you think?

What did I said?

Eläkeläiset was AWESOME! People went scary during the concert. I saw people dancing "letkajenkka" around the dance hall. Somebody even picked me on the jenkka line. So I found myself dancing letkajenkka in Somero. It was quite fun! I haven't danced letkajenkka for a long time. Probably last time when I was on 7th grade. My friend just laughed when she saw me and others dancing letkajenkka. I was glad that I wore my vintage dress. After all when you go in a dance hall you should wear a dress.

What do you think about my dress?
Anyhow, the concert of Eläkeläiset was very energic and lots of fun to watch.

Eläkeläiset
As a live band they are just great. If I have a chance I'll go to see them again. A good music, a better mood. :)

After the concert the bus was waiting us. I was quite tired but yet still I couldn't sleep in a bus. I was at home around 4:15am and went to bed around 4:55am. It sucks that I couldn't sleep any longer coz we had thunderstorm here this morning. So now I am quite tired, I gonna try to have some sleep when I have finised writing this blog update. It's not normal to me stay up so late. Good thing is that I am on vacation so I don't have to wake up early on Monday morning.

Till next time!

Waffle towels with embroidered border

Hello dears,

As some of you know that I like to buy and make Christmas presents before December, well my friends I have already 3 Christmas presents for my relatives. 2 of them I have even wrapped. A couple days ago I got the idea of selfmade waffle towels with embroidered borders. So yesterday I cycled to draper's and bought a meter of grey waffle fabric.  So basicly what I did was I cut the waffle fabric in half. Now I had two pieces (two towels) Then I desinged the embroidery pattern. I had black and white string at home so I used them. One piece I made pattern with black string and another with white string. When the patterns were ready I finished the raw edges by sewing. That was pretty much all. Sounds easily but it took 4-5 hours to finish both towels.

Finished!

Now when the towels are ready I can wrap them on the paper. My next project going to be knitten mittens. I going to make a pair to my brother ...suprise, suprise, as Christmas present. First I just have to find where I have put my knitting needles....

Till next time!

Happy name day!

Hello dears,

In Finland, people not only celebrate their birthdays each year, but their name days as well. My name days are on 20th and 21th July. In Finland we have a bit different calendars than other countries, each day somebody celebrates their name day. I found this link, it's a name day calendar you will also get information about the names. What I really liked was the directions to pronounce the names. For example name Jonna is pronounced as YOH-nah. I freakin' hate it when people doesn't pronounce my name correctly. Once in the States a salesperson called me as "Yong na" What the...?!?! Not even close, do I look like Asian? But that's all about that subject...

Name days are often celebrated with pastries. I made blueberry pie to my co-workers. They loved it!

Blueberry pie!

I was quite touched when one of my friends gave me a little present, a reflector. Since I do live in Finland, there's use for reflector pretty much half a year. Two of my co-workers bought me salty liquorice ice cream for coffee break. Very sweet of them <3 It feels good to know there's people who care about you.
Happy name day to me! Or as we say in Finnish "Hyvää nimipäivää!"

Till next time!

Blueberry picking

Hello dears,

I went to pick blueberries in Nuuksio national park today. It was absolutely fantastic weather to go pick berries and in general be outside. Not too hot and sunny. Well at least when I was in Nuuksio. It rained when I was coming back home.

Last week when I went to Nuuksio with my sister and my niece I found a good spot to pick berries. So today I went there to pick berries. It took about 2 hours to pick 3 liters of blueberries. I don't have a clue is it long time to pick 3 liters of berries but I really did enjoyed it.

3 liters of blueberries

I wish I would have had a bigger bucket. I just have to go again in Nuuksio to pick another 3 liters of berries, but that can wait. At least couple weeks. It was quite tiring to walk around the national park wellies on my feet. But it was worth it. I also found a few chanterelles and forest strawberries. Since I didn't found many chanterelles I gonna make a yummy omelette of the mushrooms I found today.
The catch of the day
When I got back home I cleaned the blueberries. I took 3dl of them away for a blueberry pie. rest of the berries I put on the freezer so I will have berries for winter. My wild guess is that before the winter comes I have ate all the blueberries...

Blueberries are ready to go in the freezer

When I was cleaned the berries I made a blueberry pie. I must say it's damn good ( I'm eating it while I write this blog update ;) )

The pie is ready!

Now I need to rest a bit. I feel really tired coz lots of walking in middle of nowhere, or maybe it's the sauna that makes me feel tired. Anyhow, till next time!
